Restoration and electric conversion start date - May 2024
Last updated April 2024
Purchased in running condition about 20 years ago by our clients son, it wasn’t long before engine gremlins and a front-end prang set it out of action. Bouncing between the shed, the workshop and the road the 1959 VW Beetle Deluxe was finally parked up in 2008.
After speaking with our client in detail we made our way over to the foothills of the Blue Mountains and picked up the Beetle from the same shed it was parked in all those years ago. We took it straight to our workshop where we did a thorough inspection of the overall condition of the car and set out a restoration plan.
Our client has opted to restore it back to its original exterior specifications, which as far as we could find is Mango Green paintwork, matching colour wheels, and Deluxe trim. We are currently waiting to confirm this with a Build Certificate from VW Classic in Germany. The interior trim is yet to be decided.
As far as the drivetrain, the retro fitted 1500cc engine will be exchanged for a full electric conversion. At this stage we are unsure which route we will take and will be waiting for any technology leaps over the next year.
